I think Sunday night dinners are meant to be for Julia Childs. Because Mondays are work days generally, it's fun to create something warm, delicious, and homey on Sunday evening as the wrap of a weekend and the mental preparation for the work week. That, of course, make me think of cooking a la Julia.
Thus, tonight's JC meal was:
Poulet Roti - roasted chicken, with a fabulous sauce made from all the drippings mmmmm. JC, however, has you cooking the chicken on it's side which is trickier said then done and basting every 8 minutes.
Tomato Soup - made with bread instead of cream, which was fabulously creamy but now edible by my vegan friends and equally tasty for all
Green salad - with a simple dijon and dill dressing
Peach tart - made it with white peaches and regular peaches and a strawberry glaze
While I would normally include a picture, eating commenced prior to photos. Alas. You'll just have to imagine how tasty and perfect it was for a Sunday night.
So instead, here's a picture of my formerly green pepper which apparently decided to go red all of the sudden. The other peppers continue to be green as they are "Keystone Giant Sweet Green Peppers." Perhaps it was global warming from my kitchen that warped the green pepper.
I had the most pleasurable lunch today. I made a tomato basil salad with fresh basil and tomatoes plucked from my garden (and still warm from the sun), added a delicious Sicilian olive oil, and chunks of seat salt. The taste of the tomatoes were so intense because they were grown without weird waxes and chemicals and picked when truly ripe.
That taste made me start thinking again about local farms and really knowing where your food comes from. Thus, I'm thinking of doing a farm tour in September (after Crush) and spending a day or weekend with a couple of local farmers and learn about the local food and really play in the dirt. Consider it a field trip for adults, anyone want to join me?
